Conference Media and Peace Processes in the Great Lakes Region
Inter-regional meeting between media professionals and peace stakeholders Bagamoyo - Tanzanie
December 13 2004 - December 15 2004 Description: The Panos Institute Paris is organising, with the involvement of Panos Institute Kampala and the Panos Institute Lusaka, a meeting between media and civil society focusing on the theme of: "Peace building in the Great Lakes".
This meeting finds its inspiration in the meeting between media professionals and actors of civil society of Burundi, DRC and Rwanda that has been organised by the Panos Institute Paris in 2002 in Nairobi. During three days, the participants have been able to exchange their opinions and experiences at a moment while war was destroying the region and that the opportunities of meeting between actors of media and civil society of these three countries were rare and difficult to organise in a serene way. Nevertheless, exchanges have been possible and the seminar has been an important step forward in the process of mutual understanding.
This inter regional meeting aims at supporting the Burundese, Congolese, Rwandese media as well as the media of Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia, in covering in a professional way the regional stakes and especially the ones of peace and reconstruction through the intensification of exchanges with foreign colleagues and the implication in the process of reconciliation of peace consolidation and the integration as will be the International Conference of Dar es Salaam.
The objective consist in bringing together different partners and actors of media and civil society who are acting at the local or national level in order to develop collective dynamism in the field of peace building in the Great Lakes.
