The BBC World Service Trust is an independent charity that aims to alleviate poverty in developing countries through the innovative use of media. The BBC World Service Trust harnesses the power of communications to bring about positive social change. The Trust's projects range from global mass-media campaigns to local, immediate-response projects, some lasting years and others a few months. The common theme behind all the Trust's projects is the use of creative media to alleviate problems faced by some of the world's poorest communities. All their projects are designed to be cost-effective, measurable and self-sustaining.

FONDATION HIRONDELLE

The Fondation Hirondelle is usually active where conflict is endemic, where there are open hostilities or in post-conflict regions. It is also present in situations where the political, economic or social conditions are not as inviting for actors working in the development field. The Fondation Hirondelle carries out advisory missions under more normal circumstances but this is not its main activity. The foundation has set up radio stations as Radio Okapi, radio Ndeke Luka and a news agency, which aim to be close to the people by broadcasting and working in local languages.

RADIO ISANGANIRO

La Radio Isanganiro ou "Point de rencontre", est une radio créée à Bujumbura, sous l'initiative de l'association Ijambo, une association composée de journalistes travaillant dans le domaine de la résolution des conflits par la radio.
Radio Isanganiro a commencé à émettre en Fm le 18 novembre 2002. Elle dispose de six émetteurs lui permettant d'émettre sur tout le Burundi, presque tout le territoire rwandais, l'est de la RDC et l'ouest de la Tanzanie, où sont concentrés les camps de réfugiés burundais.

Créée le 25 février 2002 le même jour que le dialogue intercongolais à Sun City en Afrique du Sud, la radio Okapi diffuse ses programmes sur une grande partie du territoire congolais et est installée dans plus de 10 villes. Une centaine de journalistes travaillent tous les jours pour offrir aux citoyens de RDC et sur internet, en audio, une information en français, lingala, swahili, tshiluba et kikongo.

IFEX was born in 1992 when many of the world's leading freedom of expression organizations came together in Montreal to discuss how best to further their collective goals. Comprised of 57 organisations - located everywhere from the Pacific Islands to Europe to West Africa - IFEX draws together a tremendously diverse and dedicated global community. One of the central components of IFEX is the Action Alert Network (AAN). Member organizations report free expression abuses in their geographic region or area of expertise to the Clearing House which, in turn, circulates this information to other members and interested organizations all over the world. This efficient system enables members to stay abreast of their counterparts' activities, share information and research, and focus their energies where most needed.

MISA - Media Institute of Southern Africa

The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) is a non-governmental organisation with members in 11 of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) countries. Officially launched in September 1992, MISA focuses primarily on the need to promote free, independent and pluralistic media, as envisaged in the 1991 Windhoek Declaration. MISA seeks ways in which to promote the free flow of information and co-operation between media workers, as a principal means of nurturing democracy and human rights in Africa. The role of the MISA is primarily one of a coordinator, facilitator and communicator, and for this reason MISA aims to work together with all like-minded organisations and individuals to achieve a genuinely free and pluralistic media in southern Africa.
